The Keep, New Castle's new Anthology, is open for submissions. We’re looking for outstanding poetry, prose, fiction, non-fiction, art and photography by novices and professionals. The only constraint is that the subject matter includes New Castle, PA in some way, be it past, present or future. See submission info here. The KEEP A medieval castle keep, just like many other castle parts, served multiple purposes. The most obvious purpose was to act as the residence of the lord of the castle. For this, the top most portion of the keep was reserved. The bottom part of the keep was generally reserved for storage while the middle one was the great hall. During the late medieval times, the castle keep also served the purpose of imprisoning political prisoners. Finally, during the invasions by enemy armies, the castle keep would also serve defense purpose since it was located at a higher point and could be used effectively by archers. |
